Located in the city center, the store faces one obvious challenge: limited floor space. Unfortunately, on this side of the city, it’s hard to acquire a decent-sized store with a regular budget. Limited size in floor area raises a challenge on how to utilize the space in the most convenient ways. To counterbalance this, we had to think of a way of taking advantage of vertical space so that we could maximize the usability of the horizontal space.
We arranged display and working spaces near/on the walls and left a clear alley of circulation space in the center. It was essential to ensure the maximum circulation area because of the expected significant traffic of clients considering the population in the area, which is usually high.
The store was for displaying leather shoes, and the client wanted a design that would give a bold statement about their products. To showcase that, we created our composition from a concept inspired by leather materials, textures, and colors for the interior finish. We integrated walls with displaying tops, and countertops were covered with genuine natural leather, while painted shoe crates and shelves on the partitioning wall with colors resembling natural leather. The composition creates a stunning look and a natural feel, clearly expressing the service offered.
Lighting was another critical aspect of this design. It was necessary to ensure maximum lighting inside due to the lack of enough natural lighting. Considering that, we designed significant lighting cases with the same size and shape as the shoe.
The arrangement of lighting cases between two wood beams supported by columns holding the creates resulted in flat arched structures that help define the space underneath. We slightly lowered these structures from the ceiling to give room for service installation.
